New Castle Transit Authority

Office and Maintenance Building

The New Castle Area Transit Authority office and maintenance building was built in 2001 as an addition to their facilities in Western Pennsylvania. Constructed with 20 kinds of block, including split-faced, glazed and fluted concrete block, as well as glass block, the building also features a standing-seam metal mansard roof system, which required these very strong structural members to support it.

As masonry contractor on this project, the Brick Division of Graciano Corporation coordinated work with all the other subcontractors, since the masonry trade followed the critical path of the project.

Ralph Minetti, construction manager for the Transit Authority, noted, “The design of this building is very detailed due to the variety of blocks used. It demanded exceptional attention to detail, which Graciano was able to provide.”

Graciano’s work included:

  • Laying out walls
  • Placing steel rebar, lintels, and imbeds in walls
  • Laying the block
